The Importance of Reading Your Bible

Dear beloved in Christ,

One of the greatest gifts God has given us—after salvation through Jesus—is His Word, the Bible. It is more than just a book; it is God’s voice, His heart, and His will revealed to us.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT):

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true… God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.”

Reading the Bible daily helps you grow spiritually, renew your mind, overcome temptation, and know Jesus more intimately. It is your spiritual food. Just as your body needs daily bread, your soul needs the living Word of God.

Tips for Reading & Understanding the Bible
  1. Pray before you read – Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you (John 14:26).
  2. Start with the New Testament – Begin with the life and teachings of Jesus (start with John or Mark).
  3. Read a little each day – Don’t rush. Even one chapter a day builds your spirit.
  4. Take notes – Write what stands out or what God is teaching you.
  5. Use a simple translation – I recommend the NLT or NIV for beginners.
  6. Ask questions – What does this say about God? About me? What must I do?
  7. Apply the Word – Don’t just read it—live it (James 1:22).
